Warped Door Policy

A warped cabinet door can be a real problem. Wood is a natural product and is affected by weather and climate. Wood is prone to expansion and contraction as seasonal temperature and humidity changes occur in a home.

This can affect your doors, drawers, and face frames. In some cases doors may warp for a period of time. Sometimes, hinge adjustment may be required.

Dramatic changes in weather conditions cause reactions to our product and these natural occurrences are beyond our control. What can be controlled is the climate that surrounds our products once they have been delivered to our customer.

Why Does Cabinet Doors Warp or May Appear Warped?

  • As cabinets are taken from a factory environment and placed in a different environment, doors may warp a little. Expect warped doors to straighten out after a new home goes through a complete heating and cooling season. In such cases, a hinge adjustment will improve the fit of the door
  • Improperly installed cabinets can cause doors to appear warped
  • Improperly adjusted hinges can cause doors to appear warped. A hinge adjustment will improve the fit of the door.
  • Improperly installing decorative hardware

Check for a Warped Door

Check your door after a complete heating and cooling season. To test a door, lay the face of the door on a flat surface, such as your countertop, and measure the gap between the surface and the door edge to the nearest 1/16”.

Door Height: Warped is indicated when:

12” or less - gap is greater than 1/16”
13” to 24” - gap is greater than 1/8”
25” to 36” - gap is greater than 3/16”

Warping is a Condition and Not a Defect

Please review White River Cabinetry’s position and how it pertains to the overall warranty. It's important to understand that warping of a door or drawer is not a defect, but a condition of the wood caused by a climate issue within that products surrounding.

We suggest an acclimatization period for your cabinets. The process consists of the home being under normal HVAC conditions for 60 days after installation. This allows the elevated moisture from the new or remodeling construction process to normalize.

If necessary, hinge adjustments are recommended. If after 60 days of being under normal HVAC conditions, your cabinetry does not properly settle; please contact our customer service for assistance.

After inspection, if necessary, our professionals will replace the respective item within the first 180 days from the time of purchase.

To measure a door, lay the product on a flat surface and measure the gap from the surface to the part. The standard allowable tolerance for wood is 1/16” per lineal foot. Materials that fall within these specifications are considered acceptable and are part of the natural characteristics of wood.

What is Not Covered under the Warranty?

Any warping that takes place after the first 180 days from the time of purchase will not be deemed as warrantable. A climate controlled environment is necessary to reduce the possibility of wood movement in your home.
